Cola & Lollipop's founder Jim Carson responds to Moon Island Rob Gritton's blazing and heated attacks on his character and Beatport's charting system. We sat down with Carson today to see what he thought after a few days had past and the new release, Jim Carson "Lost In London," (Cola & Lollipops) came out on Beatport: https://www.beatport.com/track/lost-in-london/19728450 (Grab it now to show your support for Carson & Cola & Lollipops for only $2.49 USD)

"I think Rob was just really bummed that he couldn't get his way and that he expected me to be at his beck and call and he was exerting unnecessary control over the flow of the release like he exerts unnecessary control over his bookings on Koh Phangan island. If he could have his way, "It would just be Rob playing his music all day long at Zen Beach," and him uploading videos of his new house construction and complaining about tenants ripping him off. I thought to myself, 'we had a deal, I delivered the track and even the artwork in addition to mastering the release for him since he said he is only good at mixing and mastering 'his own material,' I have literally made it so easy for him to release this record and the timing is so right, why is he holding back when he hasn't had a new release for pre-order in over a month?
"Plus, I thought his attacks on releases on Beatport Top 100 charts were uncalled for, " Carson says, "Releases are an 'essential lifeblood' of the Beatport ecosystem and plenty of Beatport users look at these charts for compilation album's from labels like Toolroom, Defected, Armada, Insomniac, MONOSIDE, Mood Funk Recordings, and even Cola & Lollipops and Anahata Love Recordings since 2017. Our main focus has been releases because we believe that our music is more than just a single and our job is not to make one track hit the top of the charts, but to give the fans something they can hang onto that holds value with anywhere from 7-12 tracks at a minimum and 80 to 100 tracks at the maximum. Our "Best of Tech House & Funky House Music 2024" debuted at #28 on the Funky House Release charts, at the same time that our "Cola & Lollipops - Best of 2024 - House Music" compilation was at #2 That tech house and funky house album had 100 tracks on it and has been pirated from here to Bombay and it gives listeners a choice of which cuts they want to listen to, which means "choice" and "consent," instead of just ramming a single down your throat."
Rob stated his only goal is to impress other Beatport DJs by releasing singles in Hype and that Hype was a stepping stone for the main charts. I have nothing to say about "Hype" other than it is a good platform for newer labels starting out to compete with bigger labels with more marketing and sales outreach budget campaigns. I was perfectly OK with being on "Hype" but my goal wasn't to just have a #1 charting topping single in the Beatport Top 100, it was to start a relationship with Moon Island Records that was professional and an alliance between a city-based label and an island-based label.
I was hoping we could have a mutual back and forth release schedule like we discussed but Mr. Gritton did not deliver me any tracks and when we had discussions on the phone it was mostly him ranting and raving about some island fight or how he killed it at Grasshopper bar or what Artificial Intelligence tool we was using for his kick drums, tops, hi hats, and snares.
I think that because Rob is a big fish in a small pond that he thinks he can get away with being an absolute wreck of a human being on Koh Phangan, but when you live in the city, you have to honor schedules and release timelines and understand that time is precious especially when it comes to music."
Rob Gritton stated he thought that Jim Carson was a "loser" for only charting at #1 in the Top 100 Release section but not in the singles section. Gritton said anyone can do that. Carson said, "We understand at Cola & Lollipops his point that is harder to place a single in the competitive Beatport Top 100 when there are 1000s of songs being released every day, but we still love releases and so do other DJs and fans of electronic music so to slag off the release section and make it your only life goal to place in the main chart for Top 100 singles I think is misguided and disrespectful to 'Beatport'; as an organization who works hard to organize the various genres and different releases; with offices spanning the globe from Los Angeles to Denver to London. "Pimp Respect (I Am The One)" was my first remix album, with the title single and a Jim Carson remix, along with tracks from DYMK (Does Your Mama Know?) Tony Largo, France's Jerome Zambino, and Dallas and Denver's Riche BoOm, was a body of work a collection of classic songs like "Feeling Sunshine,"People of Color," "Pimp Respect (I Am The One)," the first pimp house record, and "Monster In My Closet," that I spin until this day and have had remastered by various mastering engineers.

"Also, from that album, our label Anahata Love Recordings went on to produce 'Tech House & Funky House: Best of 2017 (Mixed by OM Daddy)' with tracks from OM Daddy (aka Jim Carson), Late Delivery, and Riche Boom, that includes the first DJ mix (Disc 1) clocking in at just over one hour and 16 minutes; and the second disc labeled - Disc 2) - at just over 1 hour and 18 minutes for an almost 3 hour DJ mix compilation that fans appreciate and can groove out in their cars or at home or before going out for a big club night; or just for the afters. It is one of our best-selling albums ever.", Riche BoOm, Late Delivery

Carson said at the end of our chat, "Finally, I would just like to say, we at Cola & Lollipops, wish Rob all the best and hope that he understands that a contract is a contract and it should be respected and honored, especially when it comes to releasing music. I harbor no ill will at Rob and I hope we can have a beer together one day and laugh about all of this nonsense. He really should have taken me up on releasing another single in the future when he was actually capable to handle it."
"It is water under the bridge for me. I hope that Rob feels the same one day and understands my intention is just to honor and respect the music; and to release it our fans and the public in a timely fashion; and not hoard music. Music should be shared with everyone. Not everyone understand house music, but everyone deserves house music."

"A tech house pimp house track from Mr. Carson himself, inventor of the genre Pimp House, with some thick bass and dancey booty shaking grooves. Plump and ripe for the dance floor. An extended mix, an edit, and original mix to choose from. This is "Jim Cason "Lost in London," on Cola & Lollipops."
